This darling picture book was a hit with my grandkids. They appreciated the whimsical story about a boy and his friend Tingle, the magical snowflake. Little did they know I read it as an inroad to talk about the loss of their great-grandmother. We were able to talk about her passing in an emotionally rich way without trauma. A wonderful resource for children experiencing loss. We recently lost an amazing grade 1 teacher at our school, tragically and unexpectedly. I read this book to her students and it provided so much comfort to six year olds who had never experienced death, in a very relatable way. I’m so happy that I was able to get my hands on “A snowy summer’s day”. Grief can be incredibly hard and even more so for little children. I really appreciate how this book helps to make the subject of loss more comforting for anyone who might need it. Even as an adult reading it, I found myself smiling, joyful, and grateful for this book. If you have little kids or know anyone dealing with grief, loss, or just in need of a big hug, please pick up a copy for them and yourself- You’ll be so glad you did!
